Welcome to the
Dudley Children’s Book Awards
A yearly contest to find the best new children’s book. Organised by West Midlands School Librarians, voted for by pupils.
About Us
This annual award originally began as the ‘Dudley Teen Book Awards’ in 2011.
School librarians felt passionate about giving students a local book award, which they could become invested in, nominating books they have enjoyed.
Developing a reading culture, exposing young people to less traditional writers and inspiring them try debut novels and broaden their reading interests.

Oh this is wonderful news! Thank you so much. The Children’s book awards are so valuable to us as writers because they are actually judged by the people we write for! I’m delighted. It’s in my diary and I’m very grateful.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can my school get involved?
We’d love to have you! If you are a school based in Dudley or the surrounding area, please fill out our contact form with your details and we’ll be in touch with next steps!
Are there any costs to joining the Awards?
To help us facilitate the Dudley Children’s Book Awards, we ask that your school pay a small annual contribution of £25.
This fee is payable to Dudley Children’s Book Awards, C/o Windsor High School & Sixth Form.
What is required of me and my school if we join?
We would ask your school to nominate a member of staff, usually your Librarian or Reading Lead, who will have the opportunity to attend meetings and vote on shortlisted books.
You would then promote the Awards around your school and make the shortlisted books available to students, and facilitate the voting for your school.
Finally, selected students from your school can attend the Awards Presentation where the winners are announced! This is a great opportunity for students to meet other readers and even potentially the authors!
